The star players of Foden's lead a great day of music making to 84 delegates in Norwich.

The East Anglian Brass Band Association recently held its annual Brass Training Day, at St Andrew’s Hall in Norwich.

11 years old up

84 delegates from the age of 11 up enjoyed a great day under the expert tuition of players from the Foden’s Band under course leader Glyn Williams, who had driven through the night from Fishguard in West Wales to lead the event.

Varied music

He was joined by fellow British Open winners Mark Wilkinson, Helen Williams, Lesley Howie, John Barber and Stewart Baglin to assist players through music as diverse as the classic march, ‘On The Quarter Deck’ by Kenneth Alford, to the New Zealand hymn tune ‘Hine e Hine’, the jazz standard ‘Blue Rondo a La Turk’ and the test piece ‘St Austell Suite’ by Kenneth Downie. The delegates also accompanied Helen Williams in the solo ‘Share My Yoke’.

Great success

Association Chairman Christine Wade told 4BR: "The day was a great success. Delegates from fifteen East Anglian Bands enjoyed every minute of it – especially the several young players who attended the Brass Training Day for the first time. Everyone thought it was brilliant."

The Association was grateful to the John Jarrold Trust, Norfolk County Council and Norwich Town Close Estate Charity for grants towards the cost of the event.
