The 13th Scottish Borders Festival of Brass promises over a month of high class music making - led by Chairman Alan Fernie

The Scottish Borders Festival of Brass will take place from the 16th September, with the promise of over a month’s worth of top class music making thanks to the efforts of the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association (SBBBA).

Eleven events

The Festival will see eleven events organised by each of its member bands and will include several exciting concerts, a solo and quartet competition, youth band contest and a brass and percussion workshop for school children.

Borders Association Chairman, Alan Fernie told 4BR: "Everyone knows the vital contribution our bands in the Borders make to the annual Summer Festivals.

Brass bands in the Borders are very lucky in the amount of support and help they receive from their respective communities, and this festival both celebrates and acknowledges the breadth of musical activity throughout the region."

Excellent example

Alan added: "In particular, we are keen to highlight the considerable youth aspect of all our bands. The SBBBA is held up as an excellent example of good practice, and we'd like everyone here in the Borders to know about it!."

Packed festival

The packed festival programme kicks-off with on Sunday 16th September with a brass and percussion workshop for school-age children in Jedburgh.

As reported on 4BR, a brand new event is also being held at St. Ronan’s Primary School when the Innerleithen Youth Brass Band Contest will take place.
