The brilliant ‘Brass Factor’ contest will be packing in the crowds in West Yorkshire later this month – and there won’t be a single Rylan Clark wannabe on show either.
Bigger and better
This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever before, and it will be fitting that in a perhaps the finest ever year for all things ‘great’ in Great Britain – there is a patriotic theme to the music that will be performed.
Brass Factor will take place on Friday 30th November, starting at 6.00pm at Holmfirth’s Picturedrome.
Panel
Six bands will go head to head performing diverse repertoire of British themed songs, with the winner decided in part by the 'X Factor style' judging panel of David Hoyle, radio presenter at BBC Radio Leeds, former Children In Need presenter Jon Hammond, Oldham Community Radio presenter Gilbert Symmes and the illustrious Simon Cowell of the banding world - Kevin Wadsworth.
However, it will be the ever excitable audience will get the casting vote.
Glitz
Brass Factor creator Alexander Bray will be the evening’s presenter and Master of Ceremonies, whilst to add a bit of celebrity glitz, the well-known New Zealand rugby player Robbie Hunter Paul is making an appearance.
Vintage year
Alex told 4BR: "2012 has been a vintage year and a fantastic time to be British. We’ve seen record medal hauls at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film and the Beatles' ‘Love Me Do’ single.
To mark these achievements Brass Factor will be themed around - ‘Proud to be British’."
Competitors
All six competing bands - Hade Edge, Hade-Edge Juniors, Slaithwaite, Delph, Skelmanthorpe and Emley, who contain players from the age of 8 to 65, have been asked to reflect the theme in their programmes.
Ultimate
On a more sober note, the contest will also commemorate the death of Thomas Wroe, who was killed in Afghanistan only a few weeks after his 18th birthday in September.
Alex, who knew the family added: "Brass Factor will remember Thomas – certainly the very best of Britain, who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country. It is fitting that we are dedicating the evening to such a heroic young man."
The Brass Factor evening hopes to raise funds for the benefit and welfare of officers and soldiers of the Yorkshire Regiment and their families.
